[The variability of yield and yield elements of winter wheat in dependence on variety and weather conditions of the year]

Basic yield elements and final yield formation of five wheat varieties in relation to variety properties and weather were studied. The polyfactorial field trials were carried out at Dolna Malanta (Slovak Republic) from 1990-93. The variability caused by element influence varied from 10.7 % (number of grains per spike) to 40.7 % (number of spikes per square metre) and 9.5 % by the final yield. The yield variability caused by weather was from 7.3 % (number of grains per spike) to 26.6 % (number of spikes per square metre) and 43.1 % in grain yield. Highest yield was achieved by the Livia variety with a yearly variability of 36.6 % and yield elements variability from 1.1 % (number of grains per spike) to 20.3 % (number of spikes per square metre) - it is an ecostable variety. The lowest yield was from the Blava variety with a year variability of 66.9 % and yield elements variability from 5.0 % (weight of 1,000 grains) to 52.5 % (number of spikes per square metre). Calculated correlation dependences of yield elements and grain yield amount have confirmed substantial differences in the process of yield formation and reduction
