Protection of the phytogene pool of the Slovak Karst Biosphere Reserve

From the point of view of flora the protected landscape area Slovensky kras (Karst) represents the richest district of Slovakia. In the interests of rare plant species protection, a regional list of endemic, rare and endangered taxa of this Biosphere Reserve has been elaborated. From the total number of about 1,500 taxa of higher plant endemics and subendemics, 5.3 % are rare species and 32.8 % are endangered. The protection of the existing phytogene pool requires an acceptance of further measures aimed at protecting not only individual taxa and their biotopes but the whole complex of ecosystems
