The effect of Metabion in feed supplements (firm Reiffeisen Austria) on fermentation processes in proventriculi of cattle was studied in vivo. Metabion caused an indistinct decrease of pH values, and influenced neither the creation of volatile fatty acids significantly nor the molar proportions of the individual volatile fatty acids in rumen fluid during the studied period. However, it influenced highly significantly the total number of bacteria in rumen fluid as well as the number of studied bacteria species, with the exception of the lactobacilli
