1995
Jhauw, S.
There's a great demand for cut flowers on the worldmarket and the world market prices for flowers are favourable. Agriculture is one of the most important sectors for Suriname and also one with the most potential. This sector has a lot of perspectives for Suriname because of the rich soil, a relatively good infrastructure and a long tradition in the cultivation of agricultural crops. The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries has the responsibility to develop the agricultural sector in Suriname. However the possibilities of this sector are not being used to its fullest potential. With regard to the non-traditional agricultural sector (cut flower and ornamental plants sector), there is little investment and therefore this sector is also insufficiently utilized. The main cause of this is the lack of horticulture specialists at the Ministery and insufficient knowledge of the cut flower and ornamental plants sector. Because of a combination of Surinames tropical humid climate, rich soil and sufficient water Suriname is ideal for the production of tropical flowers. This project researches the financial economical feasibility of the cultivation of a 1 ha. export focused cut anthurium project of PRODEXON N.V. i.o. Succesively the following aspects are discussed; the technical aspects of the cultivation with regard to the feasibility of the project, marketing aspects, the financing of the project, production and costs and finally a financial economical analysis
