Strategy of farmer's adoption on contour bund and terrace

Contour bund and terrace methods are popular and are major techniques for land and water conservation. Contour bund is used with areas which have no more than 15 % slope which includes the largest area for agriculture. Soil terracing method is usually constructed on land slopes of more than 15 % and it is also the most efficient technique. However,it is not readily adopted by farmers. These two constraints were constraints raising from the farmer and from the construction technique. The possible solutions have been recommended such as decreasing standard and improving construction method to decrease expenditure, designing the model for farmer's crop, using equiment and materials that farmers are used to and also designing those techniques for farmers to cultivate with ease. However, adoption of those measures by farmers depends on cooperation among the implementers, technicians and extension officers.
