The aim of the work was to investigate the basic biological and agronomical characteristics of introduced oily flax varieties as well as to establish the possibilities of their rational breeding in agroecological conditions of Serbia (Yugoslavia). The differences between the varieties analyzed are significant, especially concerning the vegetation period, seed yield and oil content. High seed and oil yield per unit surface show that there are no limiting factors for breeding of this cultivar in Serbia (Yugoslavia). Especially high and stable seed and oil yields are specific for French variety Micael and Romanian varieties Geria and Olin.
