1993
Al-Sheikhly, A.H. | Essa, S.K. (Baghdad Univ. Coll. of Agric. (Iraq))
An investigation was made on distribution of clay minerals in five soil profiles. Clay was separated by sedimentation. Light minerals were separated from heavy minerals in sand fraction using bromoform liquid. The minerals species of clay fraction were identified by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). It is shown that montmorilonite, chlorite and vermiculite were dominant clay minerals, other minerals present include Kaolinite, Palgorskite, Quartz and Feldspar. The results have shown the parent materials are the main factor affecting minerological composition of these soils
