Mechanical pollination effects on fruit set, bunch weight and fruit characteristics of "Kustawi" Date Palms
1993
Al-Khafaji, M.A. (Baghdad Univ. Coll. of Agric. (Iraq))
The experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of hand pollination, mechanical pollination, and natural air pollination on fruit set, bunch weight and fruit characteristics of "Kustawi" date palm. Date pollen concentrations (pollen:filler ratio) used in the mechanical pollination were (3, 6, 9 and 12). The statistical analysis showed no significant differences between mechanical pollination with 6, 9 or 12 pollen concentration and hand pollination treatment regarding fruit set bnach weight, fruit water content, Tss and total sugars. These results would indicate the economical advantages of using the mechanical pollination with 6 pollen concentration compared to the difficult and costly hard pollination method
