This work was carried out to study the influence of different iron oxides on charge charcteristics and the exchange capacity in some iron rich soils in North Iraq. A clear relation ship was found between the kind and the amount of iron oxide and the value of cation exchange capacity of these soils.The results indicated that the removal of 0.36 of amorphous fraction of iron oxide increased the CEC by 5 meq./ 100g soil
