Bacteriological and cytological examination of the uterine perfusate in cows

The uterine perfusates from 217 Holstein cows after parturition were examined bacteriologically and cytologically. In cases showing more than 50 bacterial colonies / 0.1 ml, the conception rate (5.6%) was significantly lower. Cases with more than 70% neutrophils and those with less than 40% lymphocytes in inflammatory cells also showed lower conception rates of 27.6% and 37.9%, respectively
