The study was conducted at the Central Experiment Station, CRDI, Batac, Ilocos Norte [Philippines] from Dec 1990 to Apr 1991 to determine the appropriate weeding period for Echinochloa colona (L.) Link in cotton. One weeding (at 20 DAE, at 40 DAE and at 60 DAE of cotton); two weedings (at 20 and 40 DAE and 60 DAE, and at 40 and 60 DAE of cotton); three weedings (at 20, 40, and 60 DAE of cotton); four weedings (at 10, 20, 40 and 60 DAE of cotton) and no weeding were evaluated. Four weedings and three weedings of E. colona had seed cotton yield significantly higher than one or two weedings. These had higher net income with an ROI [return on investment] of 154 percent and 136 percent, respectively. Full interference of 209 E. colona per sq m in cotton reduced seedcotton yield by as much as 76 percent while one and two weedings by 30 to 65 percent. Three weedings had yield comparable with four weedings
