Status assessment for conservation and development of Ursula Island Game Refuge and Bird Sanctuary

A resource assessment of Ursula Island terrestrial resources was conducted for the formulation of guidelines/actions of their effective management and conservation. Faunal survey following a transect-line showed 24 bird species belonging to 18 families. Of these bird families, Columbidae was well represented with five species - the Nutmeg Imperial Pigeon (Ducula bicolor) being the most dominant in number. Aside from the avifauna, snakes, monitor lizards, and fruit bats were observed. Nesting sites of marine turtles were also noted in the island. Dominant tree species identified include Bangkoro (Mounda citrifolia), Balinghasai (Buchanania arborescens), Bogo (Garuga floribunda), dapdap (Erythrina orientalis), and ipil-laut (Intsia retusa).
