Bagras (Eucalyptus deglupta) and mangium (Acacia mangium) were the two tree species specified for planting. In terms of nominal and real values, the current performance of the tree farms was financially greater than the NPW [net present worth] expected in the financial profitability analysis. These figures showed that the tree farming as applied in the LEAF 1 [livelihood enhancement in agroforestry] Project was financially viable. Furthermore, farmers perceptions signified that the project was socially acceptable. In terms of managerial and institutional aspects, the Barangay Tree Farmers Association (BTFA) founded by the project has played important roles in the project implementation. However, there was still not much people participation in the planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project. The major problem encountered by the farmers was lack of additional capital to generate additional income during pre-harvest period. On the other hand, the major problem encountered by the LEAF 1 Project Manager was inadequate farmer interest in the project after the tree farm establishment period. The remedial measures recommended for those problems are to implement the agroforestry concept of the project and to practice a participatory approach, allowing the beneficiaries to take active roles in decision making in all aspects of the project. Moreover, the study recommended the replication of the kinds of project in other upland areas of the country. Nevertheless, modification from tree farming into agroforestry is advocated to provide possible alternative sources of income, since the intended beneficiaries were subsistence farmers
