Correlation studies of some wheat characters under saline environment

Eight wheat genotypes viz. Sonalika, LU 26s, Mutant-1, Pak-81, Pirsabak-85, Blue Silver, Punjab Type-15 and Khyber-87, were grown for screening on a salt-affected farmer's field with ECe. 11.63 mmhos/cm, PH. 9.34 and SAR = 25.70 (mmol/1) 1/2. The parameters studied were number of grains per plant, per main spike, per average spike along with 1000 - grain weight, and grain yield/plant. The genotypic and phenotypic correlations of all these characters were worked out with the character of grain yield per plant. All the genotypes displayed significant variation for salt tolerance except number of grains/plant. The parameters were correlated genotypically and phenotypically. All the parameters showed significant phenotypic correlation. The genotypic correlation was significant in all parameters except number of grains per plant which showed nonsignificant genotypic correlation.
