Influence of sulfonylurea herbicides on various maize inbreeds
1996
Demczuk, J.
10 maize inbred lines were laboratory evaluated for their tolerance to Harmony and Titus herbicides. Inbred K-17 was highly tolerant, inbred F-2 was intermediate, inbreds K-33, K-72, K-92, K-95, K-132 were susceptible and inbreds Co-151, Co-255, K-129 were highly susceptible in their response. In all genotypes the root length was more retarded than the shoot. Mitosis in root cells was inhibited but no chromosomal aberrations were observed. Harmony and Titus slightly enhanced the content of branched chain amino acids (valine, leucine, isoleucine) in K-117 and markedly decreased it in Co-255. Plants with 2 unfolded leaves were more susceptible to herbicides than plants with 4 leaves
