[Present state of Citrus Tristeza Virus infection in the province of Seville] | Estado actual de infeccion por el virus de la tristeza de los citricos (CTV) en la provincia de Sevilla. Evaluacion de pulgones vectores y de la dispersion de la enfermedad
1997
Jimenez Hidalgo, P.
In order to know which the present situation of infection by CTV is in the province of Seville a random exploration of trees has been carried out, finding about 10 per cent infection. Simultaneously, all the trees of the well known small holdings (numbers 1, 2 and 3) have been analysed (1 ha each). In the years 1982 to 1995, the grade of infection in smallholding 1 has increased from 13 to 62.75 per cent; in number 2, from 1.5 to 6.5 per cent and, in number 3 percentage has remained the same. When the levels of infection are low, a slight trend towards aggregate formation has been found. This trend disappears when the infection levels are going forward in time, and infected trees are distributed at random. Aphis gossypii was observed to be the predominant species and it can be responsible for the increased levels of infection. The present situation in the province of Seville is dangerous if nothing is done to substitute the sour rootstock by a tolerant one, and if the suggestions coming from the Servicio de Sanidad Vegetal are not followed.
