Management of improved native savannas | [Manejo del mejoramiento de sabanas nativas]
1990
After one year of investigations on the savannas of Colombia's Eastern Plains (mostly in the center of Carimagua), we now have: 1. Good instruments for describing native pastures (keys for identifying species based on inflorescences and vegetative plant parts, collection of species, herbarium). 2. The first results from the description of the vegetation. 3. Partial results from management of savannas show that the high frequencies of pasture utilization, after fire, drastically reduce the number of species, production, and productivity, in other words, the pasture shows sensitivity to bad exploitation. 4. Information on the potential productivity of pastures on different types of soil (with fertilizers). 5. The first information for starting trials with animals to improve the management of native pastures. 6. Good information to start a survey with the satellite SPOT for big areas inventory of pastures.
