The seed proceeded from Triumf and Gloria varieties cultivated in the similar, soil, climatic and technological conditions have been analysed in laboratory. The study tried to estimate in what measure the seed colour yellow and brown and size influenced the quality expressed by thousand seed weight and by germination. After harvesting and previous winnowing, it has been weighted one kilgram of seed from each cultivar. The obtained seed have been successively sifted. The sieves had in diameter 1.75-0.75 mm. There are made analyses regarding the purity, thousand seed weight and germination. The germination of the yellow seed is the same, without difference concerning thousand seed weight, while at brown seed, the germination increases simultaneously with the diminution of the thousand seed weight, being registered the differences between the cultivars. This method offers the possibility to characterise indirectly the cultivars.
