Sustainable farming model in flysh region [of Slovakia]
1995
Sedlacko, V. (Soil Fertility Inst., Bratislava (Slovak Republic))
The flysch region in Eastern Slovakia has specific pedo-ecological conditions that reflect the farming and farm land use conditions. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 500 to 800 mm, and altitude is from 320-600 metres a.s.l. Erosion is a pressing problem, a solution for which may lie in converting marginal crop lands to pastures. One of the advantages of the flysch belt lies in its attractiveness for tourism and recreation, as it is a region of rich natural beauties, mineral springs, and tourist centres, making agro-tourism a promising alternative. Since the livelihood of the region's population is primarily agricultural, all changes will have an inevitable social impact
