The role of bovine growth hormone in the regulation of secretory activity in bovine oviduct epithelial cell culture

The goal of this work was to determine the role of bovine growth hormone (bGH) in the regulation of secretory functions in bovine oviduct. The influence of bGH on IGF-I production, and the effects of bGH or IGF-I on cyclic AMP and prostaglandin F-2 alpha (PGF) release by oviductal epithelium cell culture were studied. It was observed that GH significantly (P less than 0.05) increased IGF-I secretion. Moreover, both GH and IGF-I significantly stimulated cAMP, but inhibited PGF production by oviductal cells. These data demonstrate that oviductal cells can produce PGF, cAMP and IGF-I, and confirm the role of GH/IGF-I system in the regulation of oviductal secretion
