Genotype differences in content and quality of winter wheat grain proteins

Under model conditions, after the number of spikelets and florets were reduced, 17 winter wheat genotypes of domestic and foreign assortments were tested for potential ability to accumulate a higher content of total and protoplasmic proteins, and for grain weight compensation. Fifteen genotypes responded with increases in total protein content (the highest increase 3.71 percent in the cultivar Alcedo) and only one responded with a decrease (by 0.61 percent in Bezosta) in comparison with the control unreduced ears. The portion of protoplasmic proteins decreased with the exception of Makoronka, in which an increase by 0.97 percent was recorded. The thousand grain weight of most genotypes rose (the highest in Disponent, by 17.86 g). In contrast, the weight of grain per ear fell. There were however cultivar differences in the range of changes for all evaluated traits
