Arboretum Mlynany (Institute of Dendrology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences) as the only workplace for basic research in Czecho-Slovakia has directed its activity towards the biological-ecological study of introduced and native woody plants utilized in green settings in the urbanized landscape. It also concerns itself with the creation and protection of environments, and the intensification and increase in the productive ability of woody plants in the forestry economy under changed ecological conditions. Protection and conservation of endangered taxa of autochtonous dendroflora of Slovakia together with a numerous collection of introduced taxa is being carried out in the form of ecological-geographical expositions. An experiment lasting 100 years on the acclimatization of cultural woody plant taxa concentrates more than 2,200 items representing the gene pool of the Arboretum Mlynany on an area of 67 ha arranged into the form of an architectural-landscape and dendrologically rich and interesting park
