A grass stand for ensilaging was harvested from 2nd cut in the stage of culm building. The grass was short cut, and ensilaged from direct harvest (13.56% dry matter) in the laboratory into four one-litre glass bottles. Four variants were evaluated: 2 control silages (one with formic acid supplement), and 2 experimental silages, P sub(1) with Microsil additive, and P sub(2) with SILA-BAC. Three silages were prepared from each variant. The bottles were stored in a special room maintained at 22 +/- 2 deg C, and after six months were opened and analysed. The formic acid and Microsil iimproved the quality of fermentation (Table IV.). Silages with Microsil showed the most favourable fermentation parameters with the exception of increased NH3N content out of total N. Untreated silages and silages with SILA-BAC additive were of bad quality. The quality of fermentation was also reflected in the nutrient content (Table V) and nutritional value of silages (Table VI)
