Study of an infectious coryza vaccine produced from local strain

Haemophilus paragallinarum, field strain 746 (serotype A) was used in preparation of infectious coryza vaccine. Birds received one vaccination of this thimerosal-inactivated, aluminum-hydroxide adsorbedvaccine, produced HI antibody titer at 2 weeks and increasingly become peak at 5 th week post vaccination. The protection still remained after 13 th week after vaccination. Whereas birds which were given 2 vaccinations with 6 weeks interval, developing highest level of HI antibody titer after 13 th week and the protection were also detectable at the 27 th week. Results from challenging with 4 local strains (serotype A) revealed 100 % protection in birds possesing 1:5-1:10 and 1:20-1:40 HI antibody titer. Comparing to 90 % and 100 % protection which were detcted in birds holding 1:5-1:10 and 1:20-1:40 HI antibody titer respectively when challenged with strain 221 (serotype A, Japan). Meanwhile birds challenged with strain M (serotype C, USA) developed no protection at all.
