Influence of parent rock on some chemical quality of water in selected head watershed areas of Thailand

Study on influence of various types of parent rock; granite, limestone and sandstone on some chemical qualities of water, that are the quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulfate and chloride in head watershed areas of Thailand. The result shows that in sandstone parent rock watershed areas give the highest quantities of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and chloride average of 0.86, 0.05, 4.76, 9.09 and 1.01 ppm respectively. Limestone parent rock watershed areas show the quantities of calcium, magnesium and sulfate at the highest average of 68.08, 12.64 and 0.58 ppm respectively. Granite parent rock watershed areas shows the lowest quantities of nutrient in stream water. The watershed area soil which created from sanstone has coarse texture and high erodibility which affecting high erosion rate of various soil nutrients into water. Limestone parent rock created fertile soil with high quantities of calcium, magnesium and sulfate. These nutrients can be eroded to water at higher rate than other watershed areas. Soil from granite parent rock watershed areas has coarse texture similar sandstone parent rock but shows the lowest nutrient quantities because of forest land use types in which the erosion occurs slightly. However, quantities of nutrients in all study watershed areas are not higher than standard of drinking water of the World Health Organization (WHO), but they should have plan to be manage properly especially in sandstone parent rock watershed areas.
