One way to maximise agricultural landuse is a relay crop. This is common in the district of Kantralak, Srisaket province as farmers in this area use groundnut as relay crop to corn. Generally, farmers plant corn in April, then plant groundnut 2-3 weeks prior to the harvesting of corn. However, there is some shedding effect of maize leaves on groundnut. Thus, farmers have to wait until some maize leaves begin to drop. The experiment aimed to investigate the right planting time of groundnut as a relay crop to corn in relation to top cut at of corn. The experiment was conducted at Ban Sam-beng, Kantralak district, Srisaket province during April to November 1989. It was set in a 2x4 factorial treatments which were arranged in a randomized complete block design. The first factor comprised of cut and non-cut treatment. The second factor consisted of various planting dates ie., 28, 35, 42 and 49 days after 50 % silking of corn. There was no effect of different planting dates of relay crop on the corn yield. Differently, with the planting date of groundnut sooner than 35 days after silking of corn (ie., 28 DAS) top cut of corn could increase groundnut yield. Moerover, it also gave low moisture content of corn ears. However, with regardless of limited rainfall, the best planting date of groundnut as a relay crop is 35 days after silking of corn.
