Effects of the long-term fertilization on the content of heavy metals in marshy black soil

In order to optimise crop production and prevent soil pollution, the effects of the intensive application of mineral fertilizers heave been studied within the system of the regular fertility control for heavy metal (Pb, Cr, Ni, Cd) contents in marshy black soil. The research was carried out the plots of the estate "7 July - Surcin, Serbia, Yugoslavia, where the systematic control of soil fertility was performed from from 1973 to 1993 in four-year cycles. The results referring to the latest cycle show that the content of heavy metals is somewhat higher than the world means for soil. The Ni content exceeds the allowable limit. The further research indicated that the elevated content was actually of a natural, geochemical origin, when plants absorb these elements in normal, natural rates, and that it was not the consequence of the long-term fertilization.
