The influence of the nitrogen fertiliser to the nutritive value of forages
1999
Tamm, U. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia))
The purpose of the multifactor experiments carried out on pastures and grasslands was to investigate the influence of different dosages of ammonium nitrate on the yield of the forages and their quality parameters. The yield of the dry matter of the pasture grasses increased more than two times when the moderate dosages of the nitrogen fertiliser (N60) were used. The content of the crude protein and the crude fibre in the pasture grasses did not change. The yield increased 2.5 to 3.1 times when the dosage of the nitrogen fertiliser was raised (N100). At that rate the content of the protein increased also. The nitrogen fertiliser had no reliable effect on digestibility of the pasture grasses and the content of the metabolizable energy in dry matter. The fertilization experiments of timothy grass indicated that N60 (used before each cutting) enhanced the growth of the grass
