The Tomentosa Cherry in Estonia
1998
Kask, K. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Polli Horticultural Inst.)
The Tomentosa Cherry in Estonia produces 2-8 kg per bush of small soft fleshed cherries (1.5-2.5 g). Adaptability of fruits to canning and other processing uses is essentially inferior than that of sweet or sour cherry. A lot of plants have got severe injuries caused by winter temperature fluctuations of Estonian climate and many plants were killed in young age. It did not suceed, after long time of breeding, in developing cultivars which will meet the requirements of cherry fruit producers. The Tomentosa Cherry will be grown in Estonia as an ornamental bush and producing fruits for home consumption. Some individual plants have lived 20-30 years
