Lemetti, I. | Kolli, R. (Estonian Agricultural Univ., Tartu (Estonia). Dept. of Soil Science and Agrochemistry)
At present in connection with existing in different countries dissimilar soil taxonomy systems, a great need to unified methods of databases formation has arisen. As a good example in this field is SOTER, which was composed for the characterization of both soil and terrain components. By modifying SOTER for Estonia ESTSOTER was formed. The aim of ESTSOTER is to create a comprehensive framework for the storage and retrieval of uniform soil data, to provide the necessary data for monitoring of changes in Estonian soil properties and to harmonize our soil databases with international ones. ESTSOTER is structure is compatible with global databases of soils as well with other environmental resource databases. ESTSOTER has an individual system of numeration, the corresponding number of SOTER is presented in brackets. ESTSOTER contains a certain number of characteristics, which are not presented in SOTER and on the other side the attributes, which are not used in Estonian soils identification and characterization are not presented
