An experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of double low (low erucic acid and low glucosinolate levels) fullfat rape seed (Brassica campestris) and rapeseed cake on the liveweight gain and carcass quality in growing pigs. Forty-five Estonian Landrace pigs fattened from 38 to 100 kg body weight were fed barley-based diets containing 10 per cent ground fullfat turnip rapeseed meal or 11 per cent turnip rapeseed cake. The pigs were fed with diets having equal energy and protein content. Diets and water was provided ad libitum. Inclusion of 11 per cent turnip rapeseed cake to the diet increased daily gain and had no adverse effect on the carcass quality. The added full-fat turnip rape seeds decreased daily liveweight gain from 715g to 694g and decreased loin eye area (P0,05). There is evidence that inclusion of full-fat rape seeds to the diets decrease the utilization of metabolizable energy and protein deposition in pigs which could be related to the observed performance data reduction in the present study. The addition of raw rape seeds to a feed raises its glucosinolate content and introduces an enzyme, myrosinase, which could adversely affect the physiology and performance of pigs
