The present paper deals an effect of nitrogen fertilizer rate, fungicide, retarder and date of harvesting on the germinating capacity of rye. In 1986...1997 the trials with rye varieties 'Vambo' and 'Tulvi' grown after the preceding crop of field grass. In the spring the following rates of N fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) were applied to the fields: N 0+0, 50+0, 0+50, 25+25, 75+0, 50+25, 25+50, 100+0, 50+50, 125+0, 75+0, 50+75 and 150+0 kg ha sup(-1). At the stage of tillering against the background N 75 kg ha sup(-1) the variants were treated with 0,75 kg ha sup(-1) fungicide baileton and against the background N 75...150 kg ha sup(-1) of kamposan or 5 l ha sup(-1) of CCC. The germinating capacity was more dependent on date of harvesting. The most favourable date for harvesting was 6. or 13 August. In this case the ripening time was approximately one month, and when the grain achieved a good (96...99 per cent) germinating capacity
