[Creation of a new beef breed on the basis of Santa Gertrude]

Creation of a new beef breed on the basis of crossing of the local cattle with Santa Gertrude bulls is still in progress. It is aimed at the development of territories with coarse-fibred plants such as flood-plains, lakeside depressions for beef cattle husbandry. At present there is a block of high producing crossbreeds of the desired kind. Their useful characters are consolidated through selection and autosexing. Live weight of adult cows stabilized at the level of 500-510 kg and that of the cows in the breed herd is 515-535 kg. At the age of 18 months heifers of the new breed reached 352-368 kg live weight. Calves evaluated by their productivity met the requirements of the elite class.
