The examination of the "Institute for Regional Architecture and Settlement Planning" at the Hannover University, is confined to the federal state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). In this region three historical types of farm houses can be found: "Gulfhaus", "Niederdeutsches Hallenhaus" and "Mitteldeutsches Haus" (Gulfhouse, lower German hall house and middle German house). Basically almost all historical, agriculturally used houses can be reverted to living quarters or to up todate agricultural, respectively commercial utilization.
