An experiment in split-split plot design was conducted at the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), La Granja, La Carlota City [Philippines] from February 1996 to February 1997 in order to compare the varietal response of two varieties, Phil 8477 and Phil 8583 to early season application of chemical ripener and to determine its effect on sucrose content and cane yields of the two tested varieties. Phil 8583 at six weeks after spraying (WAS) showed better advantage in Lkg/TC over Phil 8477 although both varieties responded favorably to Glyphosate application. The early season application of chemical ripener increases cane rendement and makes earlier milling possible
