Decisions concerning optimum rates of N fertilizer are more important now, because N fertilizers are costly and environmental impacts associated with the use of this fertilizer. This study was undertaken to determine appropriate rate of N fertilizer for making site specific recommendations based on the soil properties. Thirty eight rainfed sites were taken for these studies during two years. The results showed that available soil water was the most yield limiting factor in rainfed areas and was used to estimate wheat yield. Estimated and observed wheat yields were in agreement with each other. N rates determined based on the potential wheat yields were significantly correlated with observed wheat yields.
