Estimation of correlation and genetic variability in various tobacco accessions (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

Genetic variability, genotypic and phenotypic correlation co-efficient in four tobacco accessions were estimated for various traits during 1994-95. Co-efficient of variability percentage was higher for internodel distance, plant height, leaf yield and leaf size whereas variation in leaf thickness and number of leaves/plant was very little. Genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficients revealed that yield was positively and significantly associated with plant height, internodal distance and leaf size. Hence these traits should be considered for selecting high yielding tobacco varieties.
