Effect of different doses of farm yard manure and nitrogen on the yield and quality of flue-cured virgina tobacco
1997
Marwat, G.F. (Pakistan Tobacco Board, Mansehra (Pakistan))
A field experiment was carried out at Tobacco Research Sub Station Mansehra during 1986-87 to investigate the effect of different doses of organic matter and nitrogen on the yield and quality of FCV tobacco variety NC.13. Four different rates of FYM i.e. 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 kg/ha and four different doses of nitrogen viz. 0, 10, 20 and 30 kg/ha were used in the main and subplots respectively. The results revealed that the highest plant height of 89.9cm was recorded with 5000 kg/ha of FYM, while in the subplots the plant of 97.4cm was obtained when 30 kg/ha of sole nitrogen was applied. In the interaction data recorded on was applied. In the interaction data recorded on plant height, the maximum plant height of 102cm was noted with 4000 kg/ha of FYM and 30 kg/ha of nitrogen. The maximum number of leaves per plant i.e. 19.9 in the main plots were recorded with 5000 kg/ha of FYM and in subplots the highest number of leaves per plant i.e. 20.3 were obtained when 30 kg/ha of nitrogen was applied. The interaction of 4000 kg/ha of FYM and 30 kg/ha of nitrogen produced the maximum number of leaves of 21.0 per plant. The highest leaf area of 740.5 cm2 was recorded in the main plots with 5000 kg/ha of FYM, while in the subplots the maximum leaf area of 747.9 cm2 was observed when 30 kg/ha of nitrogen was applied. The interaction between 5000 kg/ha of FYM and 30 kg/ha of nitrogen gave the maximum leaf area of 777.9 cm2. The highest cured leaf yield of 2447 kg/ha was received in the main plots of 5000 kg/ha of FYM and in the subplots, the highest cured leaf yield of 2584 kg/ha was obtained by the application of 30 kg/ha of nitrogen. The interaction between 5000 kg/ha of FYM and 30 kg/ha of nitrogen produced the maximum yield of 2665 kg/ha. The highest higher grades of 48.3 percent were recorded in the main plots by the application of 4000 kg/ha of FYM, while the highest higher grades of 46.2 percent were noted in the subplots where 300 kg/ha of nitrogen was applied. In the interaction of FM and nitrogen, the highest higher grades of 54.0 percent was recorded with 4000 kg/ha of FYM and 20 kg/ha of nitrogen.
