The content of volatile nitrogen bases in high wines was determined by chemical means, described in the EEC document. The concentration of the indicated compounds in the analysed samples was evaluation to be less than 0.8 mg nitrogen/litre of 100 percent spirit. Using a capilary column FFAP installed to Hewlett Packard gas chromatograph, we obtained a satisfactory separation of pyridine from other alcohol components. The elaborated method gives results with an error of 4.5 percent at the concentration of 0.5 mg/l 100 percent spirit. Comparing the results of the two analytical methods, one evidently sees the superiority of the one incorporating the gas chromatography column
