Evaluation of contents and componentes of furanocoumarins in different parts of parsnip (Pastinaca sativa L., cv. "White Parsnip")

Furanocoumarin content and composition were examined. The examination showed the presence of Bergapten, Xanthotoxin and Imperatorin. The total amount of Bergapten and Xanthotoxin constituted over 80 percent of components of the investigated groups. The fruits of parsnip showed the highest content of furanocoumarins, i.e. 1.7 percent. Parsnip furanocoumarins (Pastinaca sativa L.) can be used in pharmaceutical industry and they can be applied as natural pesticides as well
