Ecological studies on Phasianus colchicus and Syrmaticus revesii pheasants were done on the territory of the Czech Republic. Population levels were studied in different plant communities. It was found that Phasianus colchicus is more eurotypic and Syrmaticus reevesii stenotopic. Following the introduction Phasianus colchicus occupied non-forest communities (field, forest-steppe and marginal ones) while Syrmaticus reevesii preferred forest habitats. Phasianus colchicus occurs from lowland to submountain areas and Syrmaticus reevesii in lowland and hilly country. These two species are vicariad, they do not compete each other or the original avifauna
