Rare phytocenoses (RP) include different type of forests, meadowes, peat-boges and water communities which are characterized by specific cenotic structure, rare syntaxonomic state, peculiarity of origin and geographical spreading. RP promote the conservation of vegetation biodiversity and support the phylocenogenetic process in the phytobiosphere. 6 sozological categories of RP are established on the basis of cenocomponents features and the dynamic of their regeneration. The examples of RP of Carpathians and ohter regions of Ukraine are given. According to the conditions of RP existence 5 degrees of their threatmened state are determined. The integral estimation of threatened state of RP is expressed in the value of sozological index. The system of preventive, protective and biotechnological methods of RP protection is proposed
