Chlorophytes and the chlorophyll-a content in some side arms of the Danube River in Slovakia
1998

Within the framework of monitoring the Danube river and its side arms in 1994-1995, the species composition of phytoplankton and chlorophyll-a concentrations were studied in some side arms along the Danube floodplain in Slovakia (river km 1840-1800). Altogether over 230 algal taxa were identified, from which chlorophytes (111) and diatoms (73) represented the largest proportions. Chlorococcalean algae (76 taxa) were the major group of chlorophytes, namely in localities of Klucovecke side arm and Bodicke side arm. The phytoplankton communities in all the side arms investigated were rather similar. The highest contents of chlorophyll-a were monitored in Bacianske (48.5 micro g/l, October 1995), Vojcianske (28 micro g/l, July 1994) and Klucovecke (25.3 micro g/l, April 1994) side arms
