Boundary effect and development of marginal areas

Territories may become marginal because of many reasons. These driving forces of changes pushing individual areas out of main development trends may operate in isolation, but mostly occur in clusters. Marginality should be thus treated as a complex phenomenon rather than viewed from one sector or side perspective. Two marginal territories - Sumava Mts and Broumovsko - have become model areas for comparative study. Historical causes of marginality, description of present situation there and chances estimation of their future socio-economic development have become tha main issues addressed in the paper
