Numerical analysis of flood and salinity intrusion in Pak Phanang river basin

Nature of Pak Phanang River Basin is rather plain seashore area. In the rainy season during the month of November or December, the area is always destroyed by flood because during this period the sea water level is high and causes low water drainage from Pak Phanang River. Meanwhile, In dry season, the quantity of discharge is low flow which causes the problem of Salinity Intrusion in the Pak Phanang River and the people can't use the area for agriculture in the rainy season because of flood plain besides, there is the water quality problem in dry season because of salt water in the river. This study is composed of analysis of flood area during rainy season including of Salinity Intrusion through the river in dry season by developing and applying Bi-Dimensional Flood Flow Model to predict the states of flood under varies condition of flow. This model is able to compute the flood level, flood area, and varying time discharge. For Pak Phanang Salinity Intrusion Analysis by developing and applying salinity Intrusion Model:- Tidal Dynamic Equation and Salt Balance Equation were applied to simulate the condition of flow in the river and salinity value of the channel respectively. As the result of flood plan analysis by applying Bi-Dimensional Flood Flow Model and by changing the characteristic of flow, variables will obtain roughness coefficient equal to 0.045 and 0.060-0.100 which is represented the channel and the flow in flood plain. Morever, the analysis of Pak Phanang Salinity Intrusion by varying variables will give the roughness coefficient equal to 0.045 and dispersion coefficient of salinity in Pak Phanang river on the variables of:- K1 equal to 1500 and K2 equal to 300 (square m/sec.) / (ppt/km). The method to solve the problem about salinity intrusion in Pak Phanang Estuary, by construct Pak Phanang Regulator at the river mouth to protect salt water and store water in dry season.
