Some factors affecting decision-making on participation-non participation in the Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project of the rice planters: A case study of Changwat Chachoengsao area

Objectives of the study were to investigate the status and potential of the area in rice production, some factors expected to participation and non participation in the Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project, and also some problems and obstacles in rice planting. The sample were 160 rice planters in Changwat Chachoengsao area by simple random sampling technique included of 25 percentage from the Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project farmers which are 80 participation farmers and also 80 non-participation farmers. The finding was made using a set of pretested interview schedule. Statistical analysis were percentage, mean and t-test. The findings revealed that majors affecting the Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project include number of household labour, rice planting income, total income, personal media perception, and also access to knowledge and practices in rice planting. Important problems were lack of the information to buy the fertilizer from Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project, high cost of fertilizer and also shortage of fertilizer technical knowledge. Testing hypothesis found that there were difference significant between number of household labour, rice planting income and also total income of participation and non participation farmers at .01, .001 and .05 level respectively. There were also difference significant between personal media perception and access to knowledge and practices in rice planting of both farmers group at .001 level. Alternative solution suggested by the respondents regarding rice production problems were continuity rice planting training, including the management of proper production factors, Dry of Ungerminated Seed Broadcasting method and also Multiplication Seed farm should be provided. According to the Rice Raise Contract Promotion Project, public relations should be provided as well as the farm machine for their farmers. Future research may also find it useful to study the rice planting pattern in the condition of labour shortage and rented land as well as farmers expectation from farmers group.
