Study of water absorbent polymer to maintain soil moisture for flue-cured tobacco grown in April
1995
Damrong Chaiariyakul
Water absorbent polymer Hydrobeads, was used in gel form for flue-cured tobacco (K 326 cultivars) planting. The polymer was dropped in planting hole before transplanting at four rate; 0, 3, 6 and 9 g/plant. A field experiment was designed in Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications during April to August 1993 at Mae Jo Tobacco Experiment Station, Chiang Mai. The Percentage of plant survival and yields of fresh and cured leaves were not significant differences. Polymer applied at 9 g/plant gave the highest value of cured leaves which was significantly different from no polymer applied. The chemical analysis of cured leaves of all treatments were not significant differences in nicotine and reducing sugars levels.
