Crop production and soil management for improving yield of corn (Zea mays) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)

1.Study on influence of sweet corn seed vigors on growth, yield and optimum planting rate. Seed germination and growth of sweet corn were affected by the seed vigors. Seed vigors influenced on yield, but not on sweetness of sweetcorn. The optimum planting rate of high, medium and low vigors were 2,3, and 4 seed per hill with out thinning, respectively. Study on the influence of shading stress, 65 and 80 percent both along the season and during 7-11 weeks after planting on yield of corn. Under shade, the anthesis-silking interval (ASI) was longer as well as yield was significance lower than non shade. Maize grew under 65 percent shade gave higher yield than 80 percent shade . But the period of shading within the same intensity was not significant difference. Study on the nitrogen efficiency by genotypic differences maize cultivars was conducted using 2 levels of nitrogen fertilizer namely 3.2 and 16 kg N/rai and 6 maize genotypes. The leaf mumber, leaf area per plant and leaf area index had a tendency higher at the high N rate. But there was not significance different among genotypes. At the low N rate, days to 50 percent tasselling, days to 50 percent silking, days to physiological maturity and ASI were longer as comparing to the high N rate. Ear per plant, plant dry weight and grain-stover ratio as well as shelling percentage were not influenced by genotypes. Those characters were not responded to the rate of nitrogen fertilizer, while the ear weight, 1000 grain weight and yield was significance longer under high N rate.
