Research on basic structural characteristics of contracting farms and some factors affecting production pattern processing tomato production as a case study

With this study; totally 115 farms were selected by random sampling method and analyzed by dividing into two groups as contracting and non-contracting tomato producers in Yenisehir county of Bursa province. Differences in farm owners and farm structures of the two mentioned grouphs were studied. Contracting farm owners are younger and have higher education level than the second group. From the point of average cultivated farm land, the first group has almost 50 larger land than the second group. Farmers mostly complain about inflexibilityof contracting terms and delayed payments by processors.82.05 of contracting farms prefer the system for the sake of availability of ready and confident buyers. Despite of some problems experienced in implementation "the contracting farming" still appears to be as a suitable model for Turkish agriculture. It seems that, taking some additional legal measures and training of farmers on the subject, will encourage contract farming
