A research on the determination of the nutrient status of greenhouse-grown cucumbers in the east Marmara region

This study has been carried out for assessing the nutrition problems of greenhouse grown cucumbers which are steadily replacing cut-flowers in recent years in the Marmara Region. In 1994-95 soil, leaf, fruit and irrigation water samples were collected from 26 greenhouses and necessary information about the yield, fertilizing and greenhouse conditions were thus obtained. According to the results of soil analysis, there seemed to have problems of salinity, approximately in 25 , high soil pH, in 60 and low organic matter content, in 75 , of the units studied. Nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium contents of the leaves collected were found to be at sufficient levels, but boron and calcium contents were deficient in nearly all and iron in 40 , manganese in 60 , zinc in 30 , magnesium in 45 (only in the second year) deficient in the greenhouses surveyed
